This evening I went to listen to Sir Geoff Palmer talking about brewing - in particular barley and the hopping process - with Steve Stewart at his brewery in Loanhead [see extra]. It was fascinating to learn about the combination of science and guesswork that underpins the wonderful drink.

This was a good antidote to a tough day when I attended the funeral of a dear colleague, fellow runner, and all-round wonderful guy, who died recently from cancer at the cruelly young age of 41. RIP Davey.
