Las Cuevas

Las Cuevas is a town in the Las Heras department, Mendoza, located in the Andes mountain range, close to the international border with Chile. It is the highest in the province (altitude 3,557 masl) and the one located to the west.
It is 210 km from the provincial capital and 88 km from Uspallata, the nearest service center, linked by national route 7.
It is important for being the last population of that route, which is the main Mercosur corridor that connects Brazil, Argentina and Chile, through the tunnel of Christ the Redeemer (altitude 3,185 meters above sea level).
9 km from the town, going up a narrow and winding road that was part of the old route to Chile (current national route A006), is the monument of sculptor Mateo Alonso to Christ the Redeemer, symbol of the fellowship between Argentina and Chile .
