Conversation piece!

We visited Attingham Park, just outside Shrewsbury today and went around the Portrait Gallery .

This is a picture of Thomas Harwood Hill and family, circa 1730. It was painted by a visiting artist who , I understand, would have painted the background for anybody’s use and offered to fill with anyone you liked.... and Thomas liked.

Not many remain for some reason....
