Reflecting On Contrast

A visit to a museum was just right for this rainy morning, in fact the Haynes International Motor Museum near Sparkford is a must-do in any weather.
It impossible to describe the enormous variety of cars here, from the earliest Benz three-wheeler from 1886 to the fastest supercars and so much in between in the 400-odd collection. Who would have expected an entire room displaying several dozen cars all coloured red? The list goes on.

My blip was taken in the foyer, where a 1930 Bentley 4.5 litre drophead Vanden Plas sits serenely near the entrance. The practice at the time being that the chassis was released for the customer to commission the coachwork of his choosing, Montague Meyer selected the renowned Vanden Plas and specified the bonnet be one foot longer, to accommodate the driving position determined by his stiff legs. This car has had only two owners.

Reflected in the polished chrome of the radiator you see a rather more modest 1934 Austin 7 saloon, which sits on the opposite side of the foyer.
