Marmolada

The places we have been have either not had wi-fi or the signal hasn’t given us 4G so we’re now back at home so I can catch up with blip. We had stayed a second night in Predazzo and set off in reasonable weather for the Passo Pordoi, a high pass (2243m) on the Dolomiti highway (SS48). We wanted to go for a short walk to see the Mamolada, the highest point in the Dolomites and possibly have some food in a Refugio. You would think that after 6 days walking at or above 2000 metres it would be slightly easier, but it was still hard work climbing up to the southern side of the Padon chain of hills where the Marmolada came into view and where the blip was taken. We had some lunch and went on to the Rifugio Vièl dal Pan, which was shut sadly. The weather was clouding in so we decided to not go much further before coming back over the crest of the ridge to the pass. The extra shows some of still fresh volcanic features (despite being 230 million years old), a Dandelion head on steroids and a bike used by Gilberto Simone, a famous Giro d’Italia cyclist.
