There aren't many crane barges left

Two views of this one bringing heavy timber to repair the structure of Sutton Road Bridge, a very busy orbital road that carries traffic to the docks and with this ancient technology is able to stay open while heavy lifting work on the bank shoring timbers are carried out.
As the  River Hull  is a tidal river, note the upright supports that drop though
The hull of the Barge and the additional support pontoon alongside which also has a rise and fall stabilising column down to the river bed.
They need this as the river has a fast flow in both directions with the tide and a range of about seven feet here.
