we were surprised to see not only the grave of the  illustrious Karl, who actually has two tombstones after he was disinterred and moved to his present resting place, but also other British socialists and radicals. Paul Foot was a huge presence and a beacon of journalistic integrity for my generation, fighting for any unpopular causes and against longstanding miscarriages of justice, notably his success in securing the quashing of the conviction of the four men accused of killing the newspaper boy, Carl Bridgewater. Now when investigative journalism is under threat everywhere, his is a life to be remembered and celebrated
