Feeding Time

On the road almost all day today delivering.Sat on the M6 for the best part of an hour. Why we are considering building a high speed train link when we desperately need decent roads is beyond me.

Yesterday I found a young hedgehog that had been run over and killed outside the house which saddened me deeply. In forty years of driving I think I can honestly say I have never run over anything,I have always managed to brake. Is its life any less precious than a human life?I think not.All life is precious.

The Mower
BY PHILIP LARKIN
The mower stalled, twice; kneeling, I found
A hedgehog jammed up against the blades,
Killed. It had been in the long grass.

I had seen it before, and even fed it, once.
Now I had mauled its unobtrusive world
Unmendably. Burial was no help:

Next morning I got up and it did not.
The first day after a death, the new absence
Is always the same; we should be careful

Of each other, we should be kind
While there is still time.
