Happy Anniversary

London Underground celebrates it's 150th anniversary today.
On January 9th 1863 the first underground journey took place between Paddington and Farringdon on the Metropolitan Railway.

For the most part, the underground is viewed by many of us Londoners as slow, overpriced, generally unreliable with constant delays and numerous strikes over recent years to add to our frustration.
This song pretty much sums it up:
( *Warning* contains lots of naughty swear words )

However, in reality it is an invaluable system that, as those strike days prove, London couldn't manage without and we all do take for granted.
So it is with great pride that as a Londoner I can say we provided the world with the very first underground railway.

In honour of this milestone, today's blip was taken on the oldest and one of the original underground railway line platforms at Baker Street Station on the Metropolitan Line.

Happy Anniversary London Underground.
