Amakhala at last

The river at Colchester was called Sundays and the much lauded walk along side it to the impressive dunes at the river’s mouth was about all there was to - do so we did it. Being a short river, it didn’t take long so there was time for a cup of coffee at the Taste of Africa Restaurant, where we had eaten the previous evening, before leaving for Port Elizabeth Airport to pick up Cathie & Dave.
We hadn’t needed to be up and breakfasting at 7am to fit it all in, as C & D were delayed in Joburg and had to get on a later flight. After a moments consideration, we decided to do the decent thing and wait for them at the airport - even if it did mean we missed our first Amakhala lunch and had a late start for our first Safari. As it happened, it meant that we could have yet another Wimpy salad and our first safari still had time for lots of game spotting and a G & T Sundowner whilst we surveyed the Savanna. Our tent was great and had pretentions of splender with hot and cold running water, a flushing toilet, a shower, a large double bed and even individual electric blankets. The evening meal was to a high standard with grilled aubergines and a creamy tomato sauce for a starter, then a buffet of beef steaks, sausages, casserole of pork, and multiple delicious vegetables, followed by Fulva sponge pudding and crème anglaise. Coffee after was followed by J & B Rare Scotch before the bar was locked for the night.

Interesting animal fact for the day:

An elephant eats 300 kg of vegetation and drinks 120litres of water a day.

Night spent at Woodbury Tented Camp, Amakhala Game Reserve.
