Sand castle

Today's back blip is a bloke building a sandcastle on the beach at Dinard. It's a rather intricate sandcastle and most impressive.

WARNING - POLITICAL RANT FOLLOWS - DO NOT READ IF YOU ARE OF A DELICATE NATURE

Today was actually my birthday. Normal people have a meal or do something nice with their family. We took the bus to Dinard to see the film "Postcards from the 48%" a film about the 48% of the British population who were allowed to vote in the Brexit referendum and voted to remain. While the British media has been obsessed with the 52% who voted for Brexit, very little has been reported on the 48% and how they feel.

Like many it has been an utter disaster, everything they had assumed comes crashing down. Many small business and charities that do a little bit of activity in the EU will be unable to do so going forward with Brexit because the paper work which is almost non-existent now will become a tidal wave.

Many families with mixed nationality components suddenly find their legal basis upended, and people who have lived in a country for decades, worked, paid taxes raised families now have to apply to remain in their own homes or face deportation. Given the Windrush scandal, a lot of people have very little faith in the UK Home Office doing this fairly or with any form of compassion.

The film was made before the wide scale abuse by the leave campaign was fully known about and is even more depressing when you see interviews with people who say they respect people's right to want to leave, but we now know that they were lied to on an industrial scale and with hindsight a significant percentage have since changed their minds. So polite remainers are respecting the voice of people who were lied to and now regret their vote while the mainsteam media blames everything that is predictably going wrong with brexit on the remainers who aren't in charge of Breixt, and demands Brexit because it is the will of the people - echoes of Nazi Germany there...

My life was ruined. My wife is a French national and had been living in the UK for years, contributing to society, paying her taxes and was all legal as an EU citizen. Suddenly she felt unwelcome in the UK and wanted to leave, so I had a choice, leave the country of my birth and move to one where I barely speak the language and may not have a job or the right to remain for very long, or we break up. I chose my wife and so just over one year ago we left the UK and moved to France. Now it is I that face an uncertain future, but so far the French authorities have been a lot more compassionate that the British ones.

The extras are from the beach after the film and are a mix of French and Brits who watched the film.

RANT OVER - normal bland blips will continue...
