Turkey-tail

More fungi!! While Alex was working in the south of the city, I had a walk round Holme Fen NNR, which is located on acid, peaty soils, so has a different set of fungi from the local woods.

I'd been hoping to find boletes, grisettes and brittlegills, but these were all sadly lacking. Nevertheless, I found quite a few species on the dead stumps of an area of birch woodland that was cleared a couple of years ago to try and restore heathland. The Turkey-tail was particularly attractive, forming overlapping tiers of concentrically zoned brackets in many shades of brown..
