Happy Independence day Zambia!

Zambia gained independence 55 years ago today!  There were a lot of formal celebrations happening over the country today and also a lot of informal celebrations!  As I went for a walk this afternoon, I met so many drunk men....all merrily celebrating independence (or just having an excuse to get drunk)!  I was stopped by these two guys at the mall and they asked if I would take their picture - the colours of the Zambian flag behind them!  In fact, all over Lusaka the colours of the Zambian flag are draped on fences, on buildings, on statues!  Its an incredible sight!  Zambians are definitely proud of their independence from colonial Britain!

Zambia at 55 years old with power outages more than 12 hours daily...lets hope when it reaches 56 years old things will be a bit better!
