Kokowai Cove Pitt Island

Shorter trip today as we had to be back at Flowerpot Lodge for lunch.

A trip to north end Waihere Bay to walk along the beautiful beach we have viewed from the summit yesterday. Lots of interesting geological info6about the site and rocks.

Then walked up to top of Kokowai Cove where we were shown the ash layer from the Taupo eruption. Amazing wind sculptures rocks in shades of red clay. More beautiful wind blown trees to photogragh.

Back to Lodge for lunch then off to the main event. Three of our party were asked to judge the local school's speech competition, total 7 children enrolled. Aging from 5 to 12 years we were entertained by the range of topics. From conservation of paua to parenting skills, the need for a merry-go-round in their playground and environment clean ups.

Lovely mugs were presented to the judges who had a very hard job to separate the winner in each section.

Then spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the area around Flowerpot Bay.
