St Lawrence, Effingham

To St Lawrence this evening to hear a talk  titled Wallis & Warriors by Dr Robert Owen the official historian of the 617 Squadron Association (the Dambusters). Very interesting. Barnes Wallis is buried in the graveyard (see extra), and his daughter Elizabeth also attended the talk. It was very interesting. I went with Peter (my son in law's father) and we had fish and chips after. It was good to have company.

The church too is very beautiful and only 80 years short of 1000 years old. My blip is of a large mosaic depicting angels and dedicated to the memory of Caesar Czarnikow, lord of the manor of Effingham East Court of Effingham Hill (now St Teresa’s School) and his wife, Louisa. look athttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julius_Caesar_Czarnikow for more about Caesar and the following link for more about the church:http://www.effinghamwithlittlebookhamparish.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Guide-to-Saint-Lawrence-August-2018.pdf
