See before speaking

William Pitt the Younger

This fellow cuts a lonely figure on my dreary winter walk home, despite being flanked by King George IV and the founder of the Free Church, Thomas Chalmers.

No doubt witness to many a night of George Street debauchery, the Frederick Street junction resident probably shirked the party lifestyle enjoyed by passers-by when he served as the country's youngest prime minister at the tender age of 21.

'Honest Billy' is one of more than 160 statues and monuments peppering the capital - many of which I pass on my journey from the Old Town to Stockbridge - one of the reasons I love this city.
