A century of being a photographer

I spent last weekend in the company of a Magnum Photographer called Ian Berry, a man who was invited to join the Cooperative by one of it's founders, Henri Cartier-Bresson. The events of the weekend have filled my mind for much of the week. On the Saturday 10 other photographers joined us on a photo walk through Nottingham, and then on the Sunday many more people joined us at Jubilee Hall in Whatton to hear Ian talk about his 100 years in photography. Both events were under the auspices of The Royal Photographic Society.

By all accounts HCB was a man of few written words, although I am currently reading a compilation of interviews he undertook about his life with photography, it is an interesting book.

One of the things Ian repeated numerous times was that he had been a photographer for 100 years, and whilst the numbers don't add up since he is not 100 years old, I know what he means. When you live photography a number is no longer purely a number. Do you know what I mean?
