Feeding on Dead Wood

Fungi are marvellous. They feed off everything that is dead and rotting and produce nutrients at the same time.

This rotten tree stump in Martinshaw Wood was covered in toadstools, of which only a fraction are shown.

William, Basil and I had hardly arrived at Martinshaw Wood when we found this. I guided William in through the grasping brambles and had to avoid tripping myself. William was intrigued.

At Mummy Meet, I produced the bubble machine. Great fun for ten minutes.
