The Balkan

Went for a walk tonight with Nicole to get our Ski passes for tomorrow's trip to Norquay. I've never really skied before so I'm kind of nervous.

This shot is of The Balkan greek restaurant, we've been there 3 time since our Banff arrival and it is a FANTASTIC place. The lamb is to die for and the greek nights are a lot of fun complete with belly dancers and plate smashing.

Historically speaking The Balkan is in Cascade Hall, a heritage building in Banff. Compliments of the Banff Lodging Company Website:

"The Cascade Dance Hall was built in the Dutch Colonial Style in 1921 by William "Billy" Warren, a local guide, entrepreneur and husband to Mary Schaffer Warren. It featured Jim Hutchin's orchestra and was the centre of many town holidays and functions until 1963, when it was converted to a wax museum, and later, shops and restaurants."

An audio commentary on the building is also available here: http://www.bestofbanff.com/ourbanff/a/6.m3u

Banff is covered in heritage sites like this one and I'll be featuring a few in my journal over the next year.
