All hail George!

We're staying in a converted farm building that's just down the lane from Vindolanda, and we spend the morning and early afternoon looking round the site of the fort and museum.

A great place, and the boys have a fine time - Matt and George having running battles with the plastic Roman swords they got from the museum.

At the site of the fort's East Gate, a sign points out that it was lost to "stone robbing" in the 19th Century. Looking down the hill at the farm where we're staying, you can't help thinking they might have had a hand in it...
