Snatch and Grab

a patch of blue
a broken cloud
a striving bee
two butterflies,
survivors of the storm
wild, optimistic strawberries,
though their blossom
won't bear fruit.

Snatch and grab

a country walk
a breath of air
a fleeting streak
of sunlight through the hedge
Herb Robert's last
diminutive pink bloom,
and steal a moment's respite
as heavy clouds regroup.

Spotted three wild strawberry plants in blossom in the hedgerow (see Extra). The two butterflies were Red Admirals. Goodness knows where they found shelter for days on end of deluge and gales! And now the rain's returned, but we did enjoy our walk.
