Elbchaussee

One of the most beautiful streets in Hamburg’s West. Lined with many many beautiful big mansions. Before the war they mostly belonged to one rich family each, now they belong to companies or are divided into 4 or more apartments. The American Consulate owns one of these big houses as their guest house. The British decided before bombing the town in1943 to spare the rich areas here in the west because they wanted to house their officers in them once the war was over. This happened exactly as planned.
I left the mid town hotel I had been in so far and moved to my daughter for some days. This picture was taken from the taxi , hence the dark spot in the left upper corner.
Before, I had lunch with another old friend . We hadn’t seen each other since 20 years but it didn’t feel like we were strangers, not at all.
