Oak Tree Nymph - Egeria

A bit of experimentation on the way home this evening.

This is a close up of the Wood Nymph by acclaimed artist Andy Scott - this depicts Egeria, the Oak Tree Nymph, and is located in West Blackhall Street, Greenock.

Engraved below the sculpture are the words of Greenock schoolgirl, Jaime Nicole Lynch from Lady Alice Primary School :

She has a body and cloak made of metal
She wears a crown of oak leaves on her head
She stands tall and brave
She brings joy to Greenock
When people pass by they smile at her
She is happy that she brings joy
.

There is a myth that the town got it name from an old oak tree located in the middle of the town, however it is generally accepted that the town is named after the Gaelic "Grianaig", meaning a sunny place.
