A new eaterie

Lunch today with some former colleagues from the Glasgow Herald - as it used to be known before it dropped the Glasgow because it had grandiose ideas that The Herald sounded better except it led to confusion –some mistaking it for an international newspaper and others thinking it was a local weekly.

It’s neither. It’s a quality (struggling) daily newspaper serving the west coast of Scotland, which has seen its circulation drop from around 130,000 to 25,000.

One thing that hasn’t change, journalists (even retired ones like ourselves) partiality for good eating-places.  Old habits die-hard and we have fond memories of long lunches.

Today we discovered a new place, the recently refurbished River House in Stirling.
It’s stunning.

Despite the glitz and glamour the prices are reasonable. I had a Superfood bowl of mashed avocado with shredded beetroot, cauliflower couscous, pomegranate and mixed salad, quioa, broccoli, cottage cheese, and toasted spicy seeds for £13.95.plus poached salmon £3.95
And a sign of the times? None of us had alcohol, or puddings.
