Meikle Tap ( Hill of Fare)

I took Brodie up his first wee hill today : Meikle Tap a top on the Hill of Fare near Echt. The hill is notable for being the site of the Battle of Corrichie (1562) between forces loyal to Mary Queen of Scots and George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly, chief of Clan Gordon. Queen Mary was moving north to deal with the rebellious Clan Gordon and her troops prevailed. The Earl of Huntly is thought to have suffered a stroke on the battlefield and died shortly thereafter.
We came across this prominent stone near the top. It looked like a Pictish standing stone to me but I couldn’t find any info about it when we got home. A mystery. The summit was also noteworthy for decent views and seats built into the cairn.
It took us 90mins at a decent pace to get up and down with Brodie probably less tired than me.
