Lightbulb Moments

Changing a lightbulb in the 20th century:

Take old bulb out.
Check if it was 40W, 60W or 100W.
Got to box of lightbulbs kept in cupboard.
Select correct replacement.
Fit bulb.

Changing a lightbulb in the 21st century


Remove old lightbulb.
Check if it was Incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, LED etc.
Check if it was large or small bayonet, large or small screw, G4, G9 etc.
Check wattage, lumens etc.
Check if large or small globe, large or small candle etc.
Go to box of bulbs kept in cupboard.
Check all different types of bulb in box.
Ascertain that you do not have the correct bulb.
Get in the car.
Drive to soulless barn on edge of town.
Spend 10 minutes wandering aimlessly trying to find appropriate aisle.
Stand bewildered by vast array of bulbs.
Spend 15 minutes working systematically through all the types of bulbs.
Establish that they do not have the bulb with the exact combination of specifications you are looking for. 
Settle for the nearest lumens rating you can get to the original bulb.
Argue with the self-checkout machine over where you have placed your item.
Go home.
Have a cup of tea or something stronger to recover from the whole ordeal.
Fit bulb.
