Carrifran

Today I went to Carrifran with И, her sister and Django, on a Borders Forest Trust event. We weren't planting trees, but removing the plastic vole guards that protect them until they are established. This meant that we were in an area of Carrifran where the trees were planted about ten years ago. It was interesting to see how they have grown, and encouraging to see how little evidence there was of trees that have died. As well as aiming to make the place "natural", the vole guards are removed because they become brittle and would create litter, although some are deeply embedded in the trees!

Django had a great time once he'd got used to his "flock" dispersing across the hillside. He spent the day going from person to person, saying hello and looking for affection! The organiser's 11.5 year old Border collie didn't enjoy his lively company, and was a cold old lady when we stopped for lunch - see extra!
