The View Must Be Spectacular

I walk by this St Andrews villa quite often. Designed by John Milne in 1861, one guide book describes the style as "bizarre Gothic".

The roof is fairly complex, but the house is kept in excellent condition. The curved roof on the tower is quite unusual and almost Japanese.

Rathmore overlooks the West Sands, with the East Coast stretching further north. I imagine  the view on a clear day must stretch for nearly 100 miles.

I like this house.

I carried out some research, and found Rathmore is mentioned in "The St Andrews of Jo Grimond" together with a description of the family who built it.

Jo Grimond, Leader of the UK Liberal Party during the 50’s and 60’s was born in St Andrews. Before entering Parliament he was Secretary of the National Trust for Scotland.

A "Duck Duck Go" query on Rathmore, St Andrews resulted in discovering that the top floor flat of the house is/was for sale and the link below leads to a sales brochure which illustrates the interiors of the various rooms that are within the roof space together with photos of the spectacular view.
