At the vets

This afternoon we had an appointment at the vets for Soft Cell

Yesterday evening our elderly cat fell off the shelf where he spends his time, and got stuck between the microwave and the wall. Ian managed to get him out but Soft Cell had a fit that lasted about five minutes and appeared to lose strength in his back legs.
Fortunately he recovered from his ordeal and he was content to spend the night in a large cage in the kitchen. We couldn't risk him climbing back on to the shelf

Our vet is in Westerham, about 9 miles away and although there are closer vets, Mark Nelson is a great caring veterinary surgeon who looks after all the animals at a very big animal rescue and is highly recommended.

Soft Cell had a thorough examination, which indicated no injuries from his fall, and then had blood tests. The results showed very poor kidney functions and low red blood cells. Mark said his kidneys would deteriorate further and the next few days would be crucial. His advice was to give him fatty foods, tuna and special food for cats with kidney problems. No medication was given.

The journey back was awful and we sat in heavy traffic through Brasted and Sundridge. I enjoyed looking in the house and shop windows. It took over an hour and Soft Cell miaowed for most of the trip.

He has had his tea, eaten heartily and looks very bright and lively. We can only make sure we care well for him in his old age.
