You'll Never See It This Clean Again

Watchers of this space know how much stuff is usually on this sill--vases, jars, flowers, eggshells, a pottery basket one of the grandkids made, sand dollars, tiny ceramic animals. The kitchen window has needed some work for quite awhile. Years. So today, the worst possible day for painting: cold, overcast and drizzly, the painter came to sand, prime, and varnish. It's extremely stinky work, the primer didn't want to dry in the damp weather, and we had to turn the heat off to open all the windows. And yet somehow, amazingly, the paint dried. I watched it.

We get to repeat it all tomorrow for the second coat.
