Blackness Castle

This might be our last opportunity to walk in good weather for a while so we took a recommended route from Bo'ness to Blackness Castle.

Built in the C15 with alterations during the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots, it is a veritable stronghold on the Forth. I wish we had known before how interesting it is for adults and entertaining for children, with towers to climb, walkways around the walls and a drawbridge on the seaward side.

Including the tour round the castle and pottering on the beach the walk took us about four hours, plenty of exercise to make up for all the Christmas chocolate.
