Snowdonia Summit

A great day out with a climb of Snowdon. Cloud covered the upper slopes but the weather forecast offered the possibility of sunny intervals in the afternoon so we set out along the Pyg track in an upbeat mood.

About 500 feet below the summit we hit the ice line and conditions underfoot became very tricky indeed. Visibility was also less than 50 feet. When we finally reached the summit we could hardly stand, the wind was strong enough to push us bodily across the track. We climbed to the summit on all fours.

Just as we were starting to descend the clouds briefly cleared allowing this tantalising view across the new cafe to Tremadog Bay. The clouds then enveloped us again and didn't disperse until we descended into Llanberis a few hours later.

And as for the cafe in the picture, it doesn't open until March, weather permitting.
