Ranfurly Railway Station

We have driven over to the East of the island in search of some drier weather.  The plan was to find a flight over Aoraki (Mt Cook) but that is looking increasingly like an exercise in frustrated waiting around .  So, we are intending to see Moeraki Boulders at low tide and then try the Blue Penguins at Oameru. If the weather does make a U turn its not too far back up to Tekapo.

Tonight we have stopped at Ranfurly, which has some interesting Art Deco buildings from the early 1930s. For a Saturday afternoon the town has something of an alien abduction movie feel about it - although with the rail line becoming a cycle and walking trail it receives ~12,000 visitors a year.  Not sure where they all are today though :-)

My blip is the station building which is now the iSite (Tourist Info Centre)

A few others on Flikr, including a sad looking Triumph 2000/2500 TC* which is in a yard here along with a variety of old cars awaiting restoration.

Thanks to everyone who commented on yesterday's Milford Sound waterfall - despite appearances we survived the day fully dry :-)

*I keep seeing these cars in New Zealand!
