1966

Alf and I went to see 1966. In case you have missed the hype, it is a film about the Ford V Ferrari battle at Le Mans.

Based on fact ( with a lot of dramatic license ) it tells the story of how a bloke called Ken from Sutton Coldfield and his pal Carroll, took on the mighty Ferrari. ( with the backing of the more mighty Ford ).

I know the history ( the book is a great read ) and the film paints a pretty good picture . Christian Bale who plays Ken Miles is great, he does look a lot like Damon Hill though which is a little odd. Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby is also great. Some of the dates and events are swapped about a bit, the race sequences are a little unbelievable, and the circuit is not quite the Le Mans we know and love but, it’s a great story and well worth a watch.

We had an entertaining drive home. Alf ( total Le Mans expert ) pointing out all the errors in the film, a lot of which I hadn’t spotted).

Don’t let that put you off though, it’s got action, high drama, funny bits, friendship and even romance ( well there is a kiss at one point ) so something for everyone.
