Snowdrops

A saunter from West Kilbride to Largs started out in wintry-bright weather but gradually got more dull and grey. So it was heart-gladdening to come across these tiny blooms on the section of the Ayrshire Coastal Path between Hunterston Castle and Fairlie. Remnants of last autumn provided a russet-brown backdrop. By setting the macro lens on my Nikon D300s to f8 I managed to sufficiently minimise the depth of field to throw it out of focus, while use of a very weak flash helped to isolate the flowers. I always think that these wee harbingers of spring mean that the new year is well under way. Soon be Christmas!
