Dawn Redwood

This is a fine example of the Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, found in the Bournemouth Gardens.

The Dawn Redwood was deemed to be extinct until found in China in 1941 and introduced to the West in 1948.

The Bournemouth Gardens are home to an excellent selection of trees which are spectacular in autumn, with glowing reds and yellows reflecting the light.
