Over the fence

Beech trees on our boundary are looking beautiful in this morning’s sunshine. Until last year there was a large mature beech by our gate but it had to be felled as it was attacked by a fungus. It always dumped loads of leaves on our drive (although the tree was next door!) so this year there will be far fewer leaves to be swept.
That will please Normous for whom leaf sweeping has always been a bugbear. Now, as he is beginning to recover from his time in hospital, he is particularly thankful the old beech has gone.
