Pou whenua

Pouwhenua or pou whenua (land post), are carved wooden posts used by Māori, to mark territorial boundaries or places of significance. They are generally artistically and elaborately carved. This one was on the Motu Dunes Trail in Opotiki.
We rode our bikes on the trail today. It was very windy but the wind was coming off the sea so was a side wind for us which didn't make the ride too difficult.
