Dancing Leaves

The leaves were positively leaping and spinning in little cyclones as I drove to class this morning. The predicted strong winds arrived as predicted and our power was turned off as promised...

...over and over. We get alerts from the county, the neighborhood association
and PG&E. They come with an abrasive alarm, or a little ding or no sound at all if I
have turned off the sound on the phone. They probably come on the landline too but they stop coming because the landline doesn’t work once the power goes off. They come in English and they come again in Spanish. They come in the dead of night and they come after the fact. They never say when the power will be turned back on.

It was not an auspicious day to have an appointment with the dermatologist, but it takes so long to get a new appointment that I dared not cancel it...especially since I had already cancelled it once because I was still dealing with fallout from the previous exam.  I actually fell asleep on the examining table waiting for the doctor. Tonight should be more restful with the power actually out, unless they start sending notifications about when the power will go back on again.

They don’t usually send those until the power is back on....

This outage was not as widespread as the last time, so we’re going to friends who will have power, a warm house, a toilet that flushes and a pot of soup on the stove....

Thank goodness there don’t seem to be any new fires....
