San Francisco hat

When we left Venezuela in December 1996 after living there for eighteen months, our daughter Anna was nearly two years old. We chose to have a holiday on our way home, and flew to San Francisco before driving through California, Nevada and Arizona. We visited Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and other memorable sites. We then flew from Phoenix to New York, stayed there for a few days, and arrived back in England on Christmas Eve. It was quite a trip to undertake with a toddler, and I was pregnant!
We had come from the tropics, and little Anna had no winter clothes. We kitted her out with a little red Venezuelan poncho before we set off, but once in San Francisco we added to her wardrobe with some warmer clothes and included this knitted hat. It was used throughout the holiday, in her early years at home and then by her brother. More recently grandson George wore it when he stayed with us.
It has always been known as the San Francisco hat. It is looking a bit worse for wear now, but there is no way I would get rid of it. Who knows, it may come in useful for yet another generation!
