Shrimp farming

An action packed day, one of my favourites. We were up early as we were traveling over the Hai Van Pass to Hoi An.  We soon came to a very large lagoon and at one point we stopped alongside it for a few minutes to take photos. The weather was fairly hazy but very warm and we watched as a couple of shrimp farmers slowly rowed ashore.  As we climbed up the pass there were some lovely views down to the beach and ocean. Near the top we visited the site of an old French military area with further good views before heading down to Da Nang.  The weather changes dramatically becoming much warmer here so we appreciated the cool interior of the Cham Museum. It was full of archeological sculptures from Hindu and Buddhist Temples dating from the 7th to 17th centuries.  After a pork baguette we climbed the Marble Mountain past a very large dragon before a large statue of Buddha. A temple was here and priests were chanting as we walked past a female Buddha and into a few caves. These caves were used as a hospital base by the Vietcong.  From the top of the hill there were views to the other 4 hill tops and down to the city and beach of Da Nang.  We then climbed back down for our coach ride on to Hoi An.

Hoi An is very picturesque and we had our evening meal in the centre surrounded by the lighted lanterns.
