Ramblings from Zambia....

Zambian art....

and crafts show is an annual event here in Lusaka!  It is an amazing place where artists of all different kinds come to show their work and of course sell it.  A lot of them I had come across before but there were a few clothes designers with wonderful fresh Zambian designs!  The man in the extra makes these toys from old flip flops - he was lovely to chat to and lives in Lundazi in Eastern Zambia!  I bought a few things...hard not to really!!

Then I met a Malawian friend who is in his last year of studying to be a doctor.  He was a clinical officer for some years in Malawi and then had the opportunity of upgrading - he is an excellent surgeon already so I am sure when he qualifies he will go back to that!  We had a lovely lunch together!

The best thunderstorm of the year so far this morning - lots of thunder and lightning and rain....so today its mud everywhere!  Lusaka has no drainage so flooding is an issue and there are currently road works all over the city (the Lusaka decongestion project) which seems to be making more congestion!  The  contractors have dug massive drains along the side of the roads but there is nowhere to drain to, so today they are full of water!  I hope we are not having another cholera season in Lusaka!!
