Golden Harrow

Got out for a walk round the Lake this afternoon, crepusculars and dark clouds and lines of yellow light, but I liked when the low sun hit this disk harrow on our neighbour, Manuel's, land. He's been making fire breaks while the soil is soft from the rain. Mike gathered some acorns, which he's roasted in the fire, delicious.

Took Ermelinda to church in Reguengos this morning, thoroughly enjoyed the celebration of Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of the liturgical year; next Sunday is the start of Advent. Not having grown up in a liturgical tradition, I really appreciate it. The music was excellent, and the homily, by Padre Manuel José, the simplicity you only get on the other side of struggling with the complexity... the King of the Universe enthroned on a cross... Loved when a shaft of golden light hit Ermelinda, sitting next to me, lighting her up like a saint - which, actually, she is.

Off to Sem Fim to meet up with the expatriates in a bit.

Gratefuls:
- Paul's two sermons, at our church in Sutton, going well
- Deb leading the family afternoon service there, for the first time
- Julia being able to get to church today, midwifery duties have stopped her lately
