The Lozarithm Lens

Still Life (TT235)(Tuesday 26th November 2019)

The woodland garden now has a fitted carpet, made up entirely of fallen leaves. I picked up these two from the path immediately outside the cottage, and used them for this still life, which I thought suitable for Tiny Tuesday, on the theme of 'Seasonal', with thanks to dbifulco for hosting.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Andrew Poppy - 32 Frames For Amplified Orchestra (recorded 1985, Sarm West, London)
I first came across the work of minimalist composer Andrew Poppy in 1982 while I was the cataloguer at the BBC Gramophone Library and a limited edition 10" EP by Lost Jockey came my way. It was clearly influenced by other minimalist musicians that I enjoyed: Glass, Cage, Feldman, Riley, Reich and others.
Three years later I bought his album The Beating of Wings on ZTT, from which this comes, with the composer conducting, and later replaced it on CD, and much more recently on a 3CD set Andrew Poppy On Zang Tuum Tumb, which I was playing on this day, and which still sounds marvellous.
32 Frames was written in 1981 for the Goldsmiths College 20th Century Music Orchestra. The music was later used for the seminal Portuguese eighties' film A Girl In Summer directed by Vítor Gonçalves.
