A walk around Ribboeshead and Hardraw

It was the most beautiful day for a walk .We stopped off at Ribboehead Station on the Settle to Carlisle Railway and had a look round . Lots of plaques and historical information. Information was also given about a circular walk under the arches looping around one of the farms which became an inn for the workers living in the shanty towns and back alongside the railway. About 3 miles it was just the right length today . The industrial archaeology here is fascinating seeing the site where the shanty town was, with names like Jericho Belgravia and Sebastopol .  A drama series was made about ‘Jericho’ a few years ago .
Hungry after the walk, we ate at the Railway Inn with a good view of the viaduct and roast turkey served inside a giant Yorkshire pudding !!
We drove onto Hardraw Waterfall - it was quite scary on the roads which were icy as the temperature was below freezing .
The owner of the land by the waterfall served us tea in the centre - he was previously the owner of the GreenDragon Inn but sadly he was told us his partner was currently ill and all their plans for a future living on Paros were no longer possible. He was a fascinating man who has restored Nappa Castle in the Dale and produced a photographic pictorial journey in the Dale in the 70s and 80s . http://www.hardrawforce.com/hardrawforcepublishing.html
