Common Enchantments

Sun Dog

This is what I saw today...."The scientific name is parhelion (plural: parhelia) from the Greek parēlion, meaning "beside the sun." Speculation is that they are called that because they follow the sun like a dog follows its master. Sundogs (or sun dogs) are also referred to as mock suns or phantom suns." Sundogs appear when sunlight hits clouds of ice crystals and the ice acts as prisms.

Hello, it was 54F and I am not thinking there were ice crystals in the sky!   Maybe it was though!

And there is this folk lore information too...The old wives tale that a halo indicates bad weather to come has some truth to it as they are caused by cirrus clouds which often indicate an approaching weather front.

No bad weather for this week but starting a rainy week on Sunday per the weatherman.

Before the meteorologists came to be I guess they predicted weather by the clouds and the "sundog"!     Might have been just as accurate!

It certainly was beautiful!!    It was not a good clear shot so I added a little watercolory look to it!
