Buddha with snow on his head

The first thing I saw this morning was our little buddha statue with an unusual head of snow. We put him in the garden to remind us of our time as volunteers in Cambodia.

Apparently soil is meant to represent our karma, plants the blossoming of ideas, and the seasons the changing moods of the mind.

I've also read that the eastern tradition is not to have buddhas facing south in gardens, as this is associated with Yama, a Hindu god and judge of the dead. I'd rather our garden faced south and got more sun, but at least he's facing the right way!
