Toll gate house

This is in La Vale. It was built around 1833 along the National Road. This toll house made about $10,000 its first year.

Rates included: 6 cents for sheep or hogs, 12 cents for cattle and 12 cents "for every chariot, coach, cochee, stage, phaeton or chaise with two horses and four wheels."
