Hot Ice

The sun, low in the sky minutes before setting, cast wonderful soft warm light over crazed ice covered rocks along the lake shore. Twisted in amongst them were reeds, also encased with ice, which glowed and looked more like lobster claws.

Despite the high contrast, recorded by the camera as almost black in the shadows, I managed to recover significant detail and subtle tones.

Taking several shots as the light faded quickly gave me a selection of colour palettes to choose from. I have to admit though it was the ice patterns that made it for me.
