BIRD'S EYE MAPLE

It's a truly beautiful wood - but it's a nightmare to work - the grain behaves like a turbulent sea, making it impossible to plane. You need to saw, sand & scrape it into submission.

The result is stunning!

This is a 1930's German guitar with a bolted neck (currently unbolted) - the problem lies in the fingerboard which has warped itself into a minor roller coaster. Unless CC takes this on in the meantime, I'll be tackling that when I get back from Orkney in the New Year...
